Meet Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Cathie.

I’m a certified teacher, math interventionist, and the founder of My Math Mindset.

For more than a decade, I’ve worked with students who needed something a little different from the traditional math classroom—more time, another explanation, a confidence boost, or simply someone who could help math finally make sense.
I believe every student can grow in math.

Math isn't usually just about the math.

Over the years, I’ve met so many students who have decided they’re simply “not a math person.”

Sometimes they’ve fallen behind. Sometimes a concept was taught in a way that just didn’t click. Sometimes homework has become a nightly battle. And sometimes they’ve spent so long feeling unsuccessful that they’ve stopped believing they can be successful.

That’s the part of teaching I care about most.

I love finding the explanation that finally makes something click, helping a student recognize what they already understand, and watching their confidence begin to catch up with their ability.
Because when students stop feeling defeated by math, they become much more willing to learn it.

What students can expect from me

My teaching style is relaxed, conversational, and highly individualized. I want students to understand why something works—not just memorize enough steps to get through tonight’s homework.

 We start where you are.

No judgment about what you “should” already know. We figure out what’s solid, what’s missing, and what needs another look.

 We make the thinking visible.

I use visuals, guided examples, vocabulary, patterns, and step-by-step reasoning to turn abstract ideas into something students can actually work with.

 We build independence.

The goal isn’t for a student to need me forever. It’s for them to develop the understanding and confidence to tackle more on their own.

A little about my background

I’m a certified teacher with experience in math intervention, middle and high school mathematics, online instruction, curriculum development, and individualized academic support. MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Confidence comes first.

Not because confidence replaces learning—but because students are far more willing to take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, and keep trying when they believe they are capable of figuring something out.

At My Math Mindset, success isn’t about becoming the fastest person in the room.

It’s about understanding more than you did yesterday.

Beyond the whiteboard...

When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me spending time with my husband, our three kids and our sweet pup (Daisy), traveling, working on a new creative project, or reorganizing something that probably did not need to be reorganized.
